New digital network at Billy Bishop Airport takes off using Ad Manager

Toronto, ON, January 12, 2016 — Dot2Dot Communications, the pioneer in media management software Ad Manager and Canadian Master Distributor of Scala, announces an exciting project with Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (BBTCA) that has Ad Manager and Scala Enterprise Content Manager actively managing an impressive network of over 50 digital screens.

bb-image-009Whether you’re on your way to check-in at Billy Bishop Airport or just landing in Toronto’s vibrant city centre, this hub has spent the past 3 years planning, excavating and deploying a world-class experience. Dot2Dot Communications together with media company BLACK and Scala Certified Partner Gridcast have worked closely with PortsToronto to help provide a convenient and friendly approach to travelling. BLACK has also created and launched, alongside the digital network, Billy – a Mobile App that can integrate with the screens to provide useful information and services for travelers.

“This has been by far one of the most complex, involved projects we have worked on,” says president and CEO Dean Black. “Having the Ad Manager and Scala platforms, in addition to the Dot2Dot team as part of this project has been critical to its success.”

bb-image-001The journey delivers sophisticated media buys that have been well-thought-out by BLACK to provide agencies and brand marketers an opportunity to communicate and engage with a captive audience using stunning visuals. As passengers approach the mainland terminal they see a (16x8ft) LED video wall facing out. As they enter the building a 3×3 FIDS video wall lists arrivals, departures and space dedicated to advertising. A few steps further and you’re greeted by a bank of elevators and a (24×6.75ft) 18-LCD video corner wall featuring Scala custom scripts for multiple ad configurations.

In the lower level of the mainland terminal additional video walls greet passengers on either side of the tunnel. In the tunnel itself, eight ceiling mounted ‘digital skyline’ units feature eight 9×1-m LED screens that can be complimented by static vinyl applications – an impressive space for media domination.

bb-image-005As passengers ascend the tallest bank of escalators, Scala performs its magic by synchronizing a complex 20-screen, 20-player set-up of portrait 47” LCD digital posters to tell a brand story. Finally, in the atrium on the island side there are three 6×6 MicroTile touch video walls where passengers can interact with brand experiences.

Behind the scenes, Ad Manager together with Scala Content Manager and Player are leveraging their strengths with robust functionality and a reliable playback engine to bring it all to life. All of the data is maintained in one system making it easy to navigate, manage available time slots, upload and schedule content, and deliver client proof of play reports.

“The scale and sophistication of this project is incredible,” explains Andy McRae, General Manager, Dot2Dot Communications. “It has been a real pleasure to work closely with BLACK and all our partners to bring it to life. I am still amazed to see the features every time I travel through Billy Bishop.”
